Florida for Mom & Dad's Birthdays

In early March I travelled to Vero Beach to join my parents in celebrating milestone birthdays. (They have birthdays 9 days apart.) After a couple of days of pouring rain (during which we spent a lot of time at the local cinema and watching college basketball conference tournaments on TV), the skies cleared. We spent most of the rest of the week outdoors enjoying the mild temps and sunny skies. I had a chance to enjoy Dad's newest toy, his golf cart. But it only seats 2, so for the three of us to ride to the mini-golf course I rode on the back. Very redneck! I'm sure I made a fantastic impression on their new neighbors. Speaking of their new neighbors, this was my first visit since they've moved into their new home. It's gorgeous, very comfortable, and they are incredibly happy there. The entire back of their house looks out on a lake, and we saw ducks, cormorants, herons, pelicans, huge turtles, and even an armadillo hanging out nearby. And Mom is enjoying having a garden and a screened-in porch again. My parents bought tickets for a Gordon Lightfoot concert in town while I was there. He played all of his classic hits (Carefree Highway and The Edmund Fitzgerald among them) and some songs we didn't know. Although his voice isn't as strong as it once was (the guy is 72 years old!) we enjoyed the event. It was a great week.
