Tottenham

There is a scene in the movie "In Bruges" when the older hitman (Ken) is talking to the younger one (Ray) and the conversation goes like this:

Ken: [looking at a surreal Bosch painting] It's Judgment Day, you know?
Ray: No. What's that then?
Ken: Well, it's, you know, the final day on Earth, when mankind will be judged for the crimes they've committed and that.
Ray: Oh. And see who gets into heaven and who gets into hell and all that.
Ken: Yeah.
Ray: And what's the other place?
Ken: Purgatory.
Ray: Purgatory... what's that?
Ken: Purgatory's kind of like the in-betweeny one. You weren't really s**t, but you weren't all that great either. Like Tottenham.

This scene got a huge laugh in the theatres from people here in England because that description of Purgatory does sound a lot like the reputation of the Tottenham Hot Spurs football (soccer) club. But despite that reputation, Tottenham is one of D's favorite teams; he enjoys following them and cheering them on. You might remember that I took this photo of him with two of the Tottenham starting players at Heathrow Airport last year:Even D's cousin Jason is a fan. He bought the Spurs hat he's wearing in this photo while he and Jackie were here visiting, and he has been a Tottenham fan ever since: So you can imagine how happy D was when he finally had the opportunity to see Tottenham play live on Saturday. His friend Martin has been a lifelong Spurs fan; the two of them went to North London together to see the match against Hull. Great seats, eh? D says they were fantastic, and he had a great time.
