We spent last weekend on the Italian island of Capri, located in the Mediterranean Sea near Naples and the Amalfi Coast, at the "ankle" of Italy's boot. Don & Cathy joined us for this get-away, and we stayed busy, taking in the best of Capri's many attractions. The San Michele church:

featured an unusual and beautiful floor made of hand-painted majolica tiles depicting Adam & Eve's expulsion from the Garden of Eden.

The island of Capri became imperial property during the reign of Roman Emperor Augustus, who launched intense building there. As a result, there are Roman ruins remaining across the island.
There were also plenty of natural wonders. We walked to this natural limestone arch...

and then back down to the town of Capri and it's lovely sea views...

...admiring all of the beautiful colors across the island as we strolled.

We took a pretty coastal pathway:

to get to the opening of the Blue Grotto, Capri's famous sea cave, where sunlight through the small opening creates a glowing blue reflection inside.

Unfortunately, the seas were too rough to allow the small boats to take people inside the grotto, so we'll have to save that for another visit. Later that same day, we took a long chairlift ride...

to the top of Mount Solara, giving us fantastic views of the town of Anacapri and the gorgeous Caprese coast.

It was the ideal spot for a glass of wine...

and a nap!

Lemons are everywhere on Capri.

There was a citrus grove on the property where we stayed...

...whose lemons were some of the largest we'd ever seen.

With breakfast each morning, we were served a delicious homemade lemon jam -- different from the lemon curd we get here in England, and more like preserves. So good. Speaking of food... Of course when we're together with Don & Cathy, we know we're going to enjoy great food, wine, and ice cream. (Is there such a thing as
bad food, wine, and ice cream in Italy?? No.) Our food adventures on this trip were a combination of outstanding restaurant meals:

takeaway sandwiches and snacks:

and food cooked in the kitchen of our rented apartment. Don's Linguine alla Vongole was out-of-this-world good!

And with Cathy along, you KNOW we found the best gelati on Capri!

Here's a toast to time with good friends:

Ciao!

Wow, looks like a beautiful place. Dave didn't wear the manpris in honor of the location:).
Hey J: D had his man-pri pants with him, but didn't wear them. Steve requested that I take away his credit cards and cash while there so that he wouldn't be tempted to buy more...! A.
