Notting Hill Carnival

On Sunday, D and I spent the day at London's Notting Hill Carnival -- the largest street festival in Europe. Over a million people were expected over the two-day duration of the festival (Sunday and Monday -- today was a holiday in the UK). It's a full-on Caribbean carnival over a several square-mile area of the city that's been totally shut down to cars. It was complete with dozens of steel bands: hundreds of food stands selling Jerk Chicken, roasted corn, and Red Stripe and ginger beers (which we, and our Rasta friends, thoroughly enjoyed!):a gigantic miles-long parade with floats and dancers and massive trucks with sound systems blaring reggae music:
colorfully costumed revellers: and people as far as the eye could see: It was SO festive and SO fun -- we LOVED it! Here are some more of the sights (and sounds!) of the Carnival: This video will give you an idea of the ENERGY behind the event. (And no, the guy dancing in front of me at the end of the video isn't D!) Enjoy!

He got the "man-pri" pants (love that term) back into the UK, but it was chilly enough on Sunday that he wore jeans instead. Yea for jeans!
