Because we've spent time in Singapore before, this short trip wasn't so much about exploring the sights; it was more about spending quality time with friends and seeing a different side of the country. (So you won't see photos of some of the fascinating cultural diversity that Singapore has to offer -- Little India, Chinatown, mosques and temples, etc. -- or the awesome zoos and botanical gardens, but they are there!) While the guys had their meetings, I walked the downtown district and sought out unusual museums and different perspectives on the city. At the National Museum of Singapore, I learned a lot about Singapore's history -- including the fact that it was colonized as a trading post by the Brits in 1819, lost by the Brits and occupied by the Japanese during World War II, and then established as an independent nation in 1965. It is still a major trading post -- the port is enormous. Just take a look at all of those container ships streaming into port -- wow:

I visited a colorful museum exhibit on the Danish architect and furniture & lighting designer Verner Panton:

and went to Singapore's "Red Dot" Contemporary Design Museum:

I also enjoyed walking all along the riverfront:
We ate at fantastic restaurants, including some overlooking the city:

and had great meals at home at Randy & Lisa's:

On my final day in Singapore I caught up with friends from Maryland Debbie and Tracy and we took a cruise around the bay while our husbands wrapped up their meetings:

We saw the half-fish, half-lion symbol of Singapore, the Merlion:

the funky Esplanade theatre:

and the new Singapore Flyer wheel, which I kept calling the London Eye (for obvious reasons):

We had a great time, but had to hurry home in time for our next adventure -- stay tuned!
