Super Bowl Weekend...And A Bonus Snow Day

We paid off on our Super Bowl bet with Don and Cathy this weekend. It was painful -- you can see that D has insisted that the blog not show him wearing the colors of the Steeler Nation. But we did our part to ensure that there was equal representation with some specially handcrafted home decor items, including a centerpiece:
and a mobile:For our pre-Super Bowl dinner, Don made his famous Buffalo chicken wings and I attempted to recreate the notorious Pittsburgh Primanti Brothers sandwiches (the ones with the fries inside). The wings were great, the sandwiches gross, but we had a lot of fun:The game didn't start here until after 11pm, so we had plenty of time before the Super Bowl for a rousing game of Whoonu. Learned a lot too. For instance, who knew that Don was such a fan of the otter? My favorite line of the game? Uttered by Cathy, "But honey, I'm SURE you like puffy coats more than parties!"We settled in to watch the game: and although it got very close, Santonio Holmes' TD at the end sealed the victory for the Steelers. Here is Don celebrating the replay clearly showing that both of Holmes' feet were in bounds on the TD catch:
It was 3:30am on Monday morning when the game finally ended:
We were all tired, but you'll notice that D was awake enough to cover the Steelers logo on his shirt right up to the end! All through the game, snow was falling here. We ended up with about 3" worth. Not much, but more than they have had in London in 18 years. The area is simply not equipped to deal with snow, and it brought everything to a standstill -- especially transportation. Don & Cathy were due to leave on Monday for his conference in downtown London, but there were no trains running and they couldn't get out. Instead, we spent the day goofing off in and around Horsham:D, Don, and their odd little snow creature:Cathy took lots of photos:many of which I'm sure you'll be able to find on her blog in the coming days by clicking here: http://www.donaldandcathy.typepad.com/
I took some snow photos too:Don & Cathy were able to get out of here this morning. Our local train station was still closed, but the roads were passable and D dropped the two of them off at Gatwick to catch the Express train to London. Our longer-than-expected weekend has now drawn to a close. Despite the predominance of the black & gold, it was a great few days.

Hi Kelly:
Dave is horrified that there is a photo of him wearing the black & gold on the internet! I, on the other hand, got into the spirit of the jearsey and cheered when the Steelers won. Your family would have been proud of me!
