Happy New Year!!

After a quiet New Years Eve at home (spent struggling to stay awake until midnight after our overnight flight back from the US), we spent New Years Day at a football (soccer) match in London with friends from here and home.

Dawn and I became friends while working together in the US. After I moved here, Dawn connected me to her high school friend Lisa, who had also recently moved to the London area. We've had a lot of fun with Lisa and Pete here in the UK. Dawn and her husband Greg are vacationing here this week, staying with Pete & Lisa, and because we all enjoy football (both the US and UK versions!) we got together for the Chelsea-Fulham New Years Day match.

This was a "derby" match, or a local rivalry, as Chelsea and Fulham's stadiums are only about a mile from one another. So the crowds were into it, which made the game even more fun. Lots of taunting cheers! We were sitting in the "Fulham fans only" section (yes, there really is such a thing; the fans are separated to avoid "incidents") so I had to pretend that I'm not a Chelsea fan. We had sixth-row seats on the goal line, and all three goals were scored at our end of the field. Although Fulham scored the first goal, Chelsea came back to score two to win, 2-1. (Yea!)
