It's been an amazing week in London. There have been some incredible events happening here all week, including both Wimbledon and the Tour de France, with the first ever grand departure (initiation/first stage of the race) in England.
Wimbledon tickets are hard to come by. The tickets are sold the year prior to the tournament, and they are non-transferable. So, as you can imagine, Centre Court tickets at Wimbledon are a rare commodity. But we read in the paper that there are a very limited number of centre court tickets (presumably returns) released each night at 8:30pm on Ticketmaster. My brother and I logged in and started trying to get tickets at precisely 8:30pm on the 4th; we were able to get two tickets for Centre Court on the 5th! My brother and sister-in-law went; D was working, and the kids and I had a fun day in Horsham. B & L saw Venus Williams win her quarterfinal match and saw the first set of Roger Federer's quarterfinal match (the rest was rain delayed). They watched terrific tennis, ate strawberries and cream, drank bitters and Pimms, and had a blast.
We all enjoyed the Tour de France -- we went to the Opening Ceremonies on Friday night at Trafalgar Square, then we spent the day Saturday watching the Prologue time trials from spots near Buckingham Palace. The atmosphere was festive, and the weather was perfect -- warm, sunny, and clear. We haven't had weather like that since April! You'll see from our photos that we were quite close to the racers. It was fantastic!
